Widely known as the “Oscars of the adult entertainment industry”, the 33rd Annual AVN Awards Show was held last night (January 23, 2016) at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. For over three decades, this awards show has been the industry's biggest night, it's attended by everyone who's anyone in the business, and receiving an award from AVN is regarded as the biggest honor a porn performer could ever have. In this year's ceremony, the hosts of the show were female comedian and actress Kate Quigley co-hosting alongside adult performers Joanna Angel and Anikka Albrite.
Like always, the festivities were preceded by the famous AVN adult entertainment expo, where porn stars can be seen in the wild and people in the entertainment industry present their new products for an excited audience. The events where divided into three categories: novelty, business and fans, culminating in the main event on the 23rd which was, of course, the AVN Awards Ceremony. One seminar in particular caught my attention while browsing through AVN's website; this was scheduled for Saturday, January 23rd and was called “Consent: Yes, No and Everything in Between”. The point of this seminar was to bring together experts and veterans of the industry to discuss how performers (especially newcomers) could approach the subject of not being entirely comfortable with what was required of them on and off set. Unfortunately, they cancelled the seminar at the last minute but they will hopefully reinstate it next year, given that the subject of consent is so important and so rarely discussed within the entertainment industry.
Well-established stars and relatively new starlets walked the red carpet at the front of the venue dressed to the nines and looking as fabulous as always. They posed for pictures and gave small interviews to the reporters that attended before going inside where hopeful nominees enjoyed the ceremony while nervously waiting to hear about the winners of each category.
Having been nominated thrice in the past and after winning the title in 2014, Shyla Jennings once again took home the award for All-Girl Performer of the Year. The much sought after Male and Female Performer of the Year went to Mick Blue and Riley Reid respectively while Kendra Lust took home MILF Performer of the Year after winning the same XBIZ award just last week as well as the fan-elected Hottest MILF. Abella Danger won Best New Starlet for AVN after having won the same title in the XBIZ awards.
All in all, a good time was had by all and after giving out over 100 awards, the AVN Ceremony ended with plenty of people proud and happy with their prizes. The fun didn't end there though, the festivities continued on for the night with the AVN Awars After Party at the Vanity Nightclub.
