In celebration of Global Orgasm Day (December 22) legendary porn star Rocco Siffredy, widely known as the “Italian Stallion”, started an online petition on Change.org addressed to Italy's Minister of Education asking for sex education to be included in his country's basic school curriculum, and even offered himself (with his vast experience in the porn industry) as a teacher.
With the widespread availability of online porn, Siffredi certainly has plenty to be concerned about when he claims that “Pornography should be entertainment, but for lack of alternatives it has become a learning tool, especially among young people.” And he's certainly hit the nail on the head there; without a good sex education, many teenagers learn their first lessons on the subject via porn, and while porn is a wonderful thing, it's not by any means a good substitute since the adult entertainment business is mostly about sexual fantasies and doesn't reflect reality.
“I want to launch this appeal, because sex is a beautiful thing. I put forth my name and experience, I make myself fully available to visit Italian schools and personally promote this initiative” the 51-year-old wrote on his petition. He also pointed out that sexual education is compulsory in most EU countries (with the exception of Italy, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and the United Kingdom) and in spite of decades of proposals, there's still no law in Italy that regulates what students are being taught about sex. This is mostly due to a 1984 agreement between the Italian government and the Catholic Church that requires the Ministry of Education to consider the Church's views in its plans and programmes for sex education.
So far, just shy of 34,000 people have signed Rocco Siffredi's petition on Change.org and hopefully they will get the Minister of Education's attention and start educating their students on this important subject. “I have done my job for 30 years and I have acquired enough experience to ensure that what I do is not sex education” Siffredi wrote “students have the right to open up, ask questions, get answers, receive training on one of the most beautiful and important things in life.”
